krithē yad dhyāyathō vishṇum thrēthāyām yajathō makhaih |
dvāparē paricharyāyām kalu thaddharikīrthanāth ||
– bhāgavatha 12.3.52
The fruits of performing penance in krithayuga, ritualistic sacrifices (yagna) in thrēthāyuga and idol worship in dvāparayuga would be attainable in kaliyuga by merely chanting the divine names of the Lord. The above mentioned shloka from Bhāgavata enunciates this.
The pontiff – poet – extraordinaire, śrīpādarājaru, translated this into Kannada in his work:
‘dhyānavu krithayugadhi,
yajana-yāgṇavu thrēthāyugadi,
dānavānthakana dēvathārchaneyu dvāparayugadi,
ā mānavarigeṣtu phalavō aṣtu phalavu kaliyugadi
gānadali kēshava nele kaigoduvanu rangavithala’.
This fact that chanting the names of the Lord is the best way to attain divine grace is referenced at multiple places in both Dasa and Vyasa sahithya. Keeping this in mind, the pontiff of paryaya Shri Palimaru Matha His Holiness Vidyadheesha Teertha, had resolved to organise uninterrupted chanting of bhajans. For the purpose, he had inaugurated a specially built venue at the premises of Udupi Krishna Matha at 5.30 am on the inaugural day of his paryaya i.e on the 18th Jan 2018.
As per the resolution undertaken by His Holiness, this program has been continuously running for the last 650 days. In addition to the local groups, devotees from rest of Karnataka and other states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra etc, have also been part of the same. Additionally, there has been participation from Kannadigas settled worldwide including Dubai, the Americas, Australia etc. In this way, lakhs of devotees have been gratified by offering their bhajans to Lord Krishna in His presence itself.
This ambitious program has been successful due to the cooperation of groups affiliated to Tirupati (TTD), Mantralaya (SGSDSP) and Udupi Krishna Matha. As its organisers, the Davanagere couple, Mrs Geetha and Mr Gururajacharya, have been offering their services to Lord Krishna by tirelessly engaging and supporting the groups day in and day out.
After enabling scores of devotees to perform this service, His Holiness along with the seers of the ashta mathas, participated in the service directly on the auspicious occasion of Madhwa Jayanthi i.e. Vijayadashami (8th Oct 2019) between 9 pm and 10.30 pm. In a similar fashion, they again participated in the same on Shri Vijayadasara Aradhana (7th Nov 2019) between 10 pm and 11.30 pm.
In this devotional service, senior and junior seers of Pejavara and Adamaru matha, seers of Krishnapura, Kaniyooru, Subrahmanya, Bheemanakatte and Sode matha participated along with senior and junior seers of paryaya Palimaru matha. Despite being withdrawn from all worldly matters, the seers actively participated through chanting the divine works of Haridasaru in soothing tunes to eclectic beats.
Hundreds of devotees who were lucky enough to witness this milestone service were completely mesmerized by the same. This divine ‘dvaita’ (dual) incidence adorns the cover page of the current edition.
