The demoness Pūtanā was incorporated with a dual soul. The part which belonged to ūrvashi had to empty out her breasts before she was bestowed a position in the plane of blissful existence (dēvalōka). If one wants to partake the grace of God, it is important that one empties himself out of wordly possessions. Symbolically, we put offerings in donation boxes for this reason. Only by offering whatever one has (and thus emptying oneself), can one be filled by the grace of God.
