Shri Madhvacharya, once, set out on a tour of the southern part of the country along with his guru Shri Achyutaprekshacharya. During this journey, they visited a village called Vishnumangala. There is a shrine of Mahavishnu in this village. Acharya worshipped Shri Vishnu there. It is at this place that Acharya consumed hundreds of bananas and exhibited that his digestive fire was as large as the thumb. This place is now a part of the state of Kerala. It is at a distance of about hundred kilometers from Mangaluru. That shrine of Lord Vishnu is still present and it is in good condition. It is nestled amidst the paddy fields at the outskirts of the village. The environs of the shrine is picturesque. Quite a few of the locals speak Kannada and Tulu too. When you visit Udupi, have time on hand and a vehicle at your disposal, you may visit this place. With prior intimation, one can avail of teetha prasada too there.
