This is not just a story from Shrimad Bhagavata. This has relevance in our lives as well. Our souls are bound by a Kuchela, which is the linga shareera (the subtle body). As long as the linga shareera exists, we cannot be liberated from the misery of the endless cycle of birth and death.

Jeeva is eternally under the control of Narayana, the devatas and Gurus; One who realizes this shall be relieved from the bondage of those who are lower than him.
Most people do not realize the contribution of ParashurAma to the kurukshetra war. He was the guru of Bhishma, Drona and Karna; in turn, Drona was the guru for the Pandavas, Kauravas and quite a few other princes. So, in effect, ParashurAma was the source for all the martial skills and knowhow used in the war.
Sri Hari who is in the form of Sri Vamana is worthy of praying. Sri Vamana went to Balichakravarthy who has taken the oath of doing yaga asked land as donation as a seeker (Yachaka, beggar).
We consider Lord Hari as being supreme. This does not mean that we do not worship other gods. They are all superior to us, but Lord Hari is supreme amongst them all. That is it. We honor all gods in accordance with their stature.
